Throughout history, The technology of photography has grown leaps and bounds. We've moved from chemical web plates to film and from film into digital, but the digital world itself has grown tremendously in my lifetime. This is a history lesson, we all know that even the entry-level cameras nowadays have more capability in the professional digital cameras from 15 years ago. The photos that I have seen be produced with cameras such as the Nikon D3200 astound me. As of around 2008, The full frame sensor market arrived and started to change the way people at professional digital photography. ISO range became much bigger, depth of field got even thinner. Fast forward to now and we have all types of cameras on the market with full frame sensors and they can practically see in the dark.Read More
Everyone has a favorite place to stay in Myrtle Beach for vacation. Well Ocean Lakes is a place many call their favorite destination place when coming down on vacation. It's a gated community that allows the interior to be safe from traffic coming through as well as enjoying their private beach and family friendly facilities. Above all else though, many people enjoy time down on their own miniature version of the famed Myrtle Beach Boulevard. The preferred mode of transportation is golf carts and after dark every night, they all line up to play their music and have a good time riding around. Being a family friendly resort, nothing ever gets out of hand because there are just as many parents and small children as there are young adults and teenagers.Read More
Continuing with my Abandoned Myrtle Beach project, I decided to head over to Broadway at The Beach which is located in the heart of Myrtle Beach proper. This is a place millions come on vacation due to the many shops, restaurants and attractions that are located within it. There's the Hard Rock Cafe thats shaped like a pyramid, Celebrity Square, Ripley's Aquarium, Wonderworks and many other family oriented places.
This is a place that has made it in the itinerary of almost of every family vacation to Myrtle Beach, a place to watch fireworks a couple of times a week. It has very strict policies on operation so almost every business is open year round, but with minimal staff that just sits there hoping they dont get laid off too. Times can be really rough here in the winter.Read More
The Grand Strand has been my home for 25 years. I grew up in Conway just 15 miles inland for the beach. After graduation I went to the beach for work and college. Since I was 17 years old I have had a job in Myrtle Beach and have made quite a life for myself here. I can remember as a kid going to The Pavilion and seeing the buzzing of the boulevard; seeing Peach's Corner and the rest of the downtown area lit up like a Christmas tree. There is no better childhood memory than laughing and playing with my family down at the beach. I am sure that my memory is not a very unique one. See, Myrtle Beach is place that many people call their home away from home. Every single year, Myrtle Beach says hello and goodbye to 14 million people and after labor day, we are left by ourselves to clean up the messes and hold things together until summer comes around again. With only 27,000 in our population, the city is very empty in the winter. After all the glitz and glamour is frozen over, we are left holding down the fort waiting for the loneliness of it all to fade away. Jobs are hard to hold on to and even harder to find when the tourists leave. The stores close. The water parks dry up and the roller coasters start to rust.Read More
The steam plant in Conway has been a part of the landscape since before I was born, but it is now coming to an end. Due to a clean air act, the EPA had to shut down this facility due to too much cost in converting the plant. My dad and I took a scary highway hike to get to the island in the cooling lake across from the plant for some sunset photos. Enjoy the video!Read More
Saturday night in Conway, SC. Many people could have been at the movies or taken the short drive to Myrtle Beach to go out to nice dinner or anything else under the sun, but instead, a few decided to join my church family on the lawn beside the church to see J&J Ministries play some great contemporary praise music. Seemed like a great time to play with some new equipment and get my feet wet! Though I have to say, I was not very happy with the first few photos that came out of my camera, I realized that the problems were all user error and nothing wrong with the camera. The focusing system is much more complex in the D600 than my old camera and though these are not the most amazing photos I have ever taken, I wanted to just share a few photos showing how wonderful of thing this was! I enjoyed it and hope we can continue doing things like this on a regular basis! There has been a fire set in the hearts of those at my church and I am so thankful to be a part of this wonderful time! More photos to come!Read More
